Even if you are careful with how you take care of your car, stains can still happen. A drink accidentally gets dropped on the seat. A car window is left down in a rainstorm. Sweat transfers off and leaves behind a stain. If the seats in your car have a stain on them, you may be able to get rid of the stain through a shampooing, steam cleaning, and hot water extraction process.

Start with the Shampoo

First, you need to purchase upholstery shampoo. This shampoo is specifically designed for things such as car seats and sofas. Check the directions on the shampoo; it often needs to be diluted before being used.

Lightly spray the area where the stain is located. You don't need to saturate the area; a few light sprays are enough. Allow the shampoo to sit on the surface for a few minutes.

Steam Clean the Stain

Now that the shampoo has had a chance to settle in, it is time to get out your steam cleaner. Take your steam cleaner and use the triangle brush attachment. The steam comes out of the bottom of the cleaner, and the head of the cleaner helps to rough-up the dirt and pull it to the surface.

The point of the steam cleaner is to bring out the stain to the surface. The seat in your car is not going to be clean at the end of this step; this step is about extracting whatever caused the stain in your seat in the first place. When you are done with the steam cleaner, the seat should be wet.

Remove the Water (& The Stain)

Now it is time to remove the stain. To remove the stain, use a hot water extractor. This can be a carpet extractor. This tool will pull up all the moisture that was left in the seat by the steam cleaner. As it pulls up and sucks the moisture out of the seat, it will suck and pull out whatever stained your seat, as well.

At the same time, this tool will remove the moisture left behind by the steam cleaner; it will also pull out and remove other dirt that has made its way into the seat of your car. When you are done running the water extractor, the stain should be lifted from your seat and it should look like new.

If you need assistance with removing a stain from your seat, take it to a local car detailing shop such as Xscend Detailing. They have the tools and expertise to make your old seat look like new.
